A missing tooth shouldn’t be the end for your smile. If you’re not interested in a dental implant but are looking for something more permanent than a partial denture, a dental bridge is the perfect middle ground. This restoration fills the space left by one or several missing teeth. It is called a bridge because it spans the gap left behind, attaching to the surrounding teeth.
We encourage you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Hinebaugh to learn more about replacing missing teeth. Each patient is unique, and we would love to have a thorough conversation before recommending a restorative treatment plan that fits.
How does a dental bridge work?
A bridge is supported by adjacent teeth. Crowns fit over the neighboring teeth, resting a false tooth (a pontic) in the space left by the missing tooth. A bridge is fixed, meaning it is cemented in place and does not budge.
A bridge may be preferable to a partial denture because it looks and feels more natural, and typically lasts longer. A bride can also be attached to implants instead of teeth.
The artificial tooth and the surrounding crowns will be crafted to blend in with your surrounding smile and offer both aesthetic and functional advantages.
What will my bridge look like?
Bridges can be fabricated from a variety of materials. Common materials used in bridge work include gold alloys, porcelain bonded to metal alloy, or all ceramic (the most aesthetically pleasing option). Dr. Hinebaugh will consider the location of the bridge, your bite, tooth strength and more when determining which materials will be used to craft your bridge.
We always strive to restore teeth in ways that leave your smile looking natural and allow you to bite, chew, speak and smile comfortably.
SHOULD I GET A BRIDGE?
Replacing a missing tooth is crucial, and patients should do so as soon as possible. If the gap remains, the surrounding teeth will shift and move to fill that space. The bite can then change, leading to difficulties chewing and biting, and potential TMJ problems.
Restoring missing teeth has additional health benefits, not to mention the patient’s improved confidence at regaining a full smile. If you’re missing a tooth, reach out today to learn more about your options. We will help you find the ideal path for your needs.
