What are the major benefits of dental implants?

Maintain Your Appearance & Bone Structure

Losing teeth leads to loss of jaw bone tissue. This degrades your facial structure and ages your face. Implants help reduce bone loss to stop this process and maintain your appearance.

Improve Daily Comfort

Removable dentures don’t function as well as natural teeth because they are not well-connected to your jaw. The jaw bone continually shrinks when patients use dentures, which leads to the denture not fitting as well. This can cause slipping or rocking, and accompanying discomfort due to irritated gum tissue. Implants anchor dentures to your jaw so that they remain in place, and function like natural teeth. This removes the sources of discomfort and helps your dentures work as well as possible.

Speak More Clearly

When dentures don’t fit properly, they slide in the mouth and cause difficulty speaking comfortably. When you’re attempting to hold your dentures in place with your facial muscles while speaking, it’s more difficult to enunciate and you may experience clicking noises from your dentures. With implants, your dentures are stable and speaking is as comfortable as with your natural teeth.

Chew More Comfortably

Even with well-fitting dentures, eating is more difficult than with natural teeth. It can become near-impossible to eat some of your favorite foods because the chewing capability just isn’t there. By pairing dentures with implants, you can vastly improve your chewing efficiency and eat as you’d like. You’ll also be able to remove the palate from an upper denture so that you’re better able to taste your food.

Avoid Common Denture Inconveniences

Tired of reapplying denture adhesive? Implants securely connect your dentures to your jaws so that there’s no need for adhesive, insecurity about your denture slipping or other daily denture frustrations.

Protect Your Remaining Teeth

If you have some remaining teeth, implants help you protect these and maintain their structural integrity. Bridges connect to surrounding teeth, which must be reduced in order for the bridge to fit. An implant functions independently of adjacent teeth, so it supports restorations without sapping remaining teeth of their strength.

What can I expect from the dental implant procedure?

Your implant procedure and healing timeline will vary depending on the approach Dr. Hinebaugh takes for your implants. But it will start with the same appointment – a consultation where he will evaluate your oral health and bone density, discuss your treatment goals, and recommend the procedure that will best deliver your ideal outcome.

  1. Consultation – Dr. Hinebaugh will talk to you about why you’re interested in implants, your ideal timeline and your specific goals for the process. He will also use advanced technology to take diagnostic images on your teeth, gums and jaws. By evaluating these images, Dr. Hinebaugh can determine which implant placement procedure is best for your needs. Depending on the condition of your jaw bone and other teeth, this may be traditional implant placement, mini implantsAll-on-4 implantsTeethXpress or CHROME GuidedSMILE. He will discuss the procedure details with you and answer any questions so that you’re fully comfortable with the process.
  2. Implant placement – Your bone site will be prepared for implant placement. The implant will then be placed in the jaw. You will be fully numbed during this process so that you do not experience discomfort.
  3. Healing period & temporary placement – Your implant will require between 2-4 months to heal. This waiting period allows your bone to fully integrate with the implant material so that it is firmly connected to the jaw. You will typically receive a temporary crown during this period so that you don’t have a gap in your smile.
  4. Final crown placement – Once your implant has healed, Dr. Hinebaugh will place your final crown over the implant and the process will be complete.

Dr. Hinebaugh and our team do everything possible to provide affordable implants to our patients – schedule a consultation to learn more about financing, payment plans and other financial options.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

Patients missing teeth have three options – dentures, bridges and implants paired with crowns or other restorations. Today’s implant options are incredibly popular because they are effective, feel natural, and perform better than dentures. The American Academy of Implant Dentistry estimates that around 3 million people get implants each year.

Will you be one of them? The best way to learn more is to schedule a consultation and evaluation. Even if you have been missing teeth for some time, there are options that could allow you to receive implants. Procedures are available for all categories of oral health and tooth loss:

  • Missing one tooth – An implant can take the place of a single missing tooth anywhere in the jaw. You’ll also receive a crown that has been shaped and colored so that it resembles your natural teeth as closely as possible.
  • Missing multiple teeth – If three or more teeth are gone, the gap they leave behind can be filled in with a dental bridge – essentially a pair of crowns that supports a prosthetic between them. While a bridge is traditionally anchored to natural teeth, we can preserve tooth structure by supporting it with two implants instead.
  • Missing all your teeth – If your dentures are placed on top of four to eight implant posts, you’ll be able to eat anything you want, and you won’t have to worry about your dentures slipping or becoming ill-fitting later down the road.
  • Significant bone loss (been missing teeth for some time) – We offer a range of procedures that are appropriate for situations where the jaw may have inadequate bone tissue for conventional implant placement, including All-on-4 and TeethXpress.
  • Interested, but hoping to avoid implant surgery – Mini dental implants offer the same stability and support as conventional implants, but with a less invasive procedure.
  • Looking for new teeth as soon as possible – TeethXpress offers same-day, immediate load implants so that you can leave our office with your new, secure smile in place in just one appointment.

Dr. Hinebaugh will work with you to find the solution that fits both your oral health and your treatment preferences. With over 30 years of implant experience, he has seen a wide range of cases and placed countless implants for happy patients. The success rate for implants is high and patients love the confidence, comfort and long-term results implants offer.
